UGH! I get home from the Bama game last night, and turn on the computer to check email and stuff. But my computer won't connect to the internet. I check the modem, and all the necissarily lights are not on. So I call up AT&T, and after doing lots of tests, he determines that they need to send me a new modem and hope that is the problem. :(
So I am calling them today, and they will ship it in 3-5 days! Then after it actually ships, I will finally be able to get online at home again - unless it is the network card in my computer. (and considering the problems I have had with this computer, that just could be the problem!)
I hate not having internet access at home.........
One good thing out of it is that I did end up riding my bike last night for 108 minutes!! Plus I lifted weights and stuff for awhile after that. So onward with my goal to drop some more weight!

My typical write once, post all over the place post. :)
I can never write these on the same day of the game. I always have to let everything sink in a little, and let my thoughts and opinions form after reviewing everything in my head. Maybe that is why I hate it when I am forced into the role of a being a reporter (which I have tried to do on a few occasions for HogCall.com). Anyway, I've read the paper, but not other people's opinions yet (although I always talk with some people after the game, so I heard those), so this is my thoughts on the game.
Overall, my first thought when I think of the game is.... "WOW, what a game!!" It wasn't the prettiest game we've ever played - mainly due to a few Mustain interceptions - but it was back and forth and filled with plenty of drama which would have kept any casual football fan interested for the entire game.
It is also safe to say that the Hogs OWN overtime. We have played in the three longest games of all time (a win over Ole Miss in 7OTs, a win over Kentucky in 7OTs, and a loss to Tennessee in 6OTs), we've beaten Bama twice now in double overtimes, and overall we are now 6-1 in overtime. When a game ends in a tie, expect the hogs to win!
Now, onto the game itself.
Mustain's three interceptions (two in regulation, and one in overtime) have to be the most disappointing aspect of the game. They continued to set Bama up to score, kept the defense on the field more than they needed to be, and gave them a confidence boost each time. The good news is that he is still only a freshman (seems like some people forget this) so he'll get better, plus, even after throwing them he maintained his composure and kept coming back out there. I think I read where Malzahn said he doesn't have a memory. If so, that is a bad thing, and why he kept throwing picks. I want him to remember each and every one so that he can learn and get better - which I know he will.
Why do the receivers continue to drop balls? When Robert Johnson was in the game, people said it was his "touch" on the ball. Obviously that is not the case, because the same people declared that Mustain had the proper "touch", yet they continue to drop balls. If we're gonna throw more, then we have to make sure we catch the balls that are catchable.
The running game was pretty much the same 'ol running game that we've had - really, really good!! I don't even remember any East/West running this game, mainly because we didn't try to run so much out of the spread formation. Hillis's absence was missed at times, as he gives us that other option, so it will be good to get him back too.
The defensive line made me really happy.... and yet a little ticked. With Harrison out of the game, we had to rely on some other guys to step up their game, and they did it with gusto. We dominated the line, adnd their running game was terrible because of it. Possibly the best game the DL has had in awhile. But what makes me mad is - why did someone have to get hurt for the rest of them to step up their game?? I really hope that they will see what they are capable of, and when they get back to full strength they will still play the same way. If so, we could possibly dominate the line from here on out on the defensive side of the ball.
The defensive backs played.... ok. At times they shut down their WRs, and at other times they got totally burned. It was the second string DBs that got burned for that 78 yard TD. So once again it came to depth hurting us there, and we have to get better with our backups.
I feel so bad for the Bama kicker, Leigh Tiffin............. hahahahahaha!!! OK, I can't even say that one with a straight face!!!! :) That is a perfect example of how fragile the psyche of an athlete can be. Was he even allowed onto the Bama buss, or is he still sitting on the curb of the Broyles complex waiting on a ride back home? And I'll refrain from repeating the other sick jokes I heard about his failed suicide attempts..... I do think we should mail him a game ball. :)
I'm sure some people (including hog fans) are saying that Bama lost the game, and we didn't win it. But if it weren't for a few big mistakes (the interceptions, giving up the long TD, and several big penalties) their kicker would not have even had a chance to miss those FGs and the PAT. So let the moaners and whiners claim what they want. A win is a win, and I don't care how we got there. Oh, and I like what one of the articles said. If you're interested in style points, give up football and go score gymnastics or diving (or ice skating, etc).
We're now 3-1 and 2-0 in the SEC, and this is the first time we've done that since '98. Look out War Eagles (yes yes, I know that is wrong), our team is getting better, and so is our confidence. We will NOT just lay down to you in two weeks! So prepare for war!My typical write once, post all over the place post. :)

Ok, 14 months ago I realized I was FAT. I went back on the Subway diet (it had worked well for me a few years ago), and I started working out which included buying a stationary bike, doing some excercises, and lifting weights. I lost 40 lbs in 6 months, and even though I needed to lose another 20-30, I felt really good about myself.
But then I didn't keep going and evened out, and recently I even started putting a little of it back on. So now I'm saying "HELL NO"! I am not going to get back to that weight again, and I am going to finish what I started!!!
I've been back on my bike the last few nights (rode for 92 minutes tonight), doing excercises and lifting weights, and back on the Subway diet once again. The occasional splurges, which were happening more and more, are once again OVER.
I'm posting this here, because if it is public, I think I can hold to it better. I refuse to get that fat again!!!!

K, overall I am disappointed. I really wanted to see us drop 40 to 50 on Utah State, and I think we could have if we had played well. So why didn't we? Well, I am hoping that it was a mixture of post-USC let down, looking ahead to Vandy, and/or treating it more like a scrimmage and not worrying about the score.
The Offense committed to run, run, run. Not necessarily a bad thing, as we're typically damn good at it. We couldn't get much going there against USC (see Turnovers), and it hurt our whole offensive game plan. So making sure that is working correctly will hopefully open up more stuff down the road.
The Defense shut out USU - but it wasn't pretty. We tried to rotate in a whole lot more of the second stringers, because frankly, we currently have NO depth on that side of the ball. USU broke a few plays that they shouldn't have broken - but then the 1st string would trot in and shut the right down. I think our 1st string is better than most people give them credit for - but if they are not in the game, we have issues.
Which also goes back to establishing the run. We need the run to open up passing lanes, AND to keep the Defense off the field so they can rest up.
So, hopefully the USU performance was NOT what we should expect the rest of the year. However, if we continue to play like that, then LA-Monroe just might be the only W left of the schedule.
Either way, I'll still be there from every Fay game, all game. Wooo Pig Sooiee!!

Ok, I posted more in depth on this a Razorback website, but since I doubt anyone here will care about visiting such a site, here is my review for those who care. :)
First, for those that don't know me that well, when it comes to the Hogs I am usually the eternal optimist. At times I can rival almost anyone in that area. I believe every game is winable before it is played. The day I go into a game thinking we have no shot just might be the day I give up being a Razorback.
Now, I saw two major flaws in the game.
The first is the obvioous one - holding onto the ball. What happened to Felix Jones? Three fumbles, with two lost?? And why couldn't Monk and the other recievers catch the balls that were in their hands?
The second was the OL. *Maybe* it was just USC's DL being so big and fast - but at times they seemed to get through way too easily. I believe we have one of our best OL's - at least as far as talent and experience goes - that we have had in awhile. Personally, I think that is Markuson's fault, and he should be fired ASAP. For the last few years the OL has seemed to under perform.
Johnson had one bad play all game - the 2nd INT. The first wasn't his fault. And of the bad throws, he was usually being knocked on his ass. I don't see how this is his fault at all, yet the fans want Mustain, so Johnson had to be "perfect" or else.
As far as Mustain, I am not ready to declare him the saviour like so many others obviously were. He went in against USC's 2nd & 3rd string defense, and he really only had one nice play (the pass to Williams). But he also had his own INT, and again, it was to the 2nd & 3rd string.
Is he the future? My money says yes. Is he ready now? Guess we'll find out (he has been named the starter for Utah St, in case you missed it). But as for USC, I am skeptical that Mustain could have done any better if he had been in earlier in the game. He would have had the exact same players breathing down his neck that Johnson had, and traditionally, a freshman just is not going to do as well in that scenario. Keep in mind that we were playing the 6th best team in the land, who has had 3 straight years with the ..1 recruiting class, and they were ..2 in recruiting 4 years ago. That is one heck of a talent pool to draw from!!!!
Anyway, there were some positives in the game. That was a NICE drive that Johnson put together, and the Defense did really well until they just got too tired to keep up. (Too much time on the field thanks to the turnovers) Cleveland and Williams have already made a small impact, and will only get better. And of course, if Mustain really is ready - then the future just may be now!
Utah State better look out, because the team should be ready to take their frustrations out on someone - and they re next up on the list!!
